Mirror Using the CAD Command Line

Use the Mirror Objects command alias on the CAD Command Line to duplicate objects in reverse image; this is just like using the Copy Objects command, but with an inverted transformation across one axis (the 'mirror line'). The new objects that are created by the command have the same properties as their source objects. The Mirror Objects command can transform the objects in 3D space (the new object will have the same elevations), and can use a cutting plane as the mirror line.

Prerequisites:

To mirror objects from the CAD Command Line:

  1. Press [F3] or click thei_command line icon on the Status Bar to open the CAD Command Line.
  2. Type mi or MI at the command prompt, and press [Enter].
  3. Skip the Layer, Color, and Line style lists below the command prompt; they do not apply to this operation.
  4. Pick the objects to mirror in a supported view (Plan, Sheet, or Cutting Plane), and press [Enter].
  1. In the view, pick a From point to start creating a rubber-band line to use as the mirror line. Although the line is only shown between the To and From points, it is infinite, so all selected objects beyond the visible line will be mirrored.
  1. Based on the Retain source mode highlighted at the prompt, move to the next step, or enter a keyword character to use another mode. The options are:
    • Delete source - Enter D to remove the source objects being mirrored.
    • Retain source - Enter R to keep the source objects being mirrored.

The command remembers the last modes used the next time you run the command.

  2. In the view, pick a To point to finish the mirror line and mirror the objects.
  3. To mirror other objects, press [Spacebar] to rerun the command.

Scenarios:

If you mirror text, the justification is reversed; left-justified text becomes right-justified.

Dependencies:

  • If an object has dependencies with other objects, those are not carried over to the new object.
