Set Up External Service Profiles and Synchronization for Data Exchange
Synchronization is the process of making files on controllers match the files in the data synchronization area used by TBC and WorksManager. Use application options to set the location where files are synchronized so that office staff and field crews/machines are using the same (or most current) data. This is known as the ‘data synchronization area’ (sometimes shortened to ‘data sync area’).
Prerequisites:
- Trimble Identity (TID) credentials (user name and password); create an account here.
- License; See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.
- WorksManager account; contact your SITECH dealer for details.
- For existing WorksManager projects, access to them (granted by the people who created them)
Note: To log in with your existing Trimble Identity (TID), or create a new TID, see Sign in to Your Trimble Identity Account.
To specify the data sync folder:
- Open or start a new project in TBC.
- On the ribbon, select File > Options. or click Options in the Quick Access Toolbar.
- Under General in the left pane, click File Locations.
- Click the Browse button located next to the Data synchronization area box.
- Navigate to the folder that you want to use for synchronization (default is C:\Trimble Synchronizer Data\), and click OK to specify that as the ‘data synchronization area’ used by TBC and WorksManager.
Note: Remember that your other Trimble software, such as Terramodel, may use this data sync area path too.
- Stay in the Options dialog and proceed to the next steps.
Sign in to external services with your TID credentials:
For these services, you need only a TID account:
- Trimble Connect
- WorksManager
- Machine Data Service
- WorksOS
Note: To log in with your existing TID credentials or create a new TID, see Sign in to Your Trimble Identity Account.
Note: Although your TID logs you into all of these services, some services additionally require that you set up an account for the service the first time you log in.
Note: WorksOS does not allow you to log in to the same account more than once at the same time. For example, you cannot have Trimble Business Center open and creating machine data overlays and also have WorksOS open looking at the same machine data. If you want to compare the two, you need to use two different WorksOS accounts with different profiles.
To set up an external service profile for a non-TID account:
TBC allows you to establish multiple ‘external services’, as well as multiple user profiles for each service. Generally, each account connects to a different instance of a service. External services that do not use TID include:
- Trimble Connected Community (TCC)
- Bentley ProjectWise
To create a user profile and enter credentials:
- Click the profile icon on the right end of the titlebar and sign in to TBC using your Trimble Identity (TID) user name and password. For this, you will want to have created a TID as mentioned in the Prerequisites section above.
- Select File > Options >External Services - Profiles.
- Click Create to open the Create New Service Profile dialog.
- In the Service list, select the product you want to create an account for.
- Give the profile a Name and click OK.
- In the Service Profiles list, confirm that the profile you just created is selected.
- Click Sign In.
- Click OK to close the dialog.
Set server configurations for external services:
Each of the external services above (whether TID-enabled or not) have options you can set on the External Services - Options page. Use the Profiles page to create and sign in to all your non-TID user profiles and test your settings. Otherwise, the Enter Login Information dialog will display when you attempt to access an external service. Doing this will help you connect from TBC to WorksManager. See also Log In to External Services.
Use the External Services - Options page to configure connections for any of the external services.
