Default Standard Errors Settings

A standard measurement error or setup error is a statistical estimate of error, according to which 68 percent of an infinite number of observations will theoretically have absolute errors less than or equal to this value. The Default Standard Errors section in the Project Settings dialog allow you to do the following:

• Specify whether to use the actual standard error values contained in the imported file or the default standard error values contained in the Project Settings dialog.
• Specify the default standard error values to use if the source is the Project Settings dialog.

If you specify to use standard error values contained in the imported file and the file does not contain these values, the default values specified in the Project Settings dialog are used.

Note: Standard error values for an instrument are typically published by the instrument manufacturer.

To specify default standard error settings:

1. Select Project Settings in the Quick Access Toolbar.

   The Project Settings dialog displays.

2. Select Default Standard Errorsin the left pane.
3. Click each section and view or select appropriate options. See the informational text displayed in the lower portion of the dialog for each option you select.

   Note on RTK precision confidence...

   RTK precision confidence values contained in a JXL file uploaded from Trimble Access are always in DRMS (Distance Root Mean Squared) precision. On import, TBC automatically converts each horizontal DRMS precision value to a 1-sigma value (68%) by dividing it by 1.414. Then, based on your selection in Project Settings > Default Standard Errors > Confidence Level Display, the 1-sigma value is multiplied by a specific scale factor of 1 or greater to determine the precision value displayed in the RTK Vector Properties pane (1-sigma, DRMS, 95%, or 99%). Vertical precision values are simply multiplied by a specific scale factor of 1 or greater. This ensures that correct, matching precision values can be displayed in TBC and Trimble Access.

4. When you are done, click OK.
