Move, Rotate, and Scale Objects by Points

Transform one or more objects by moving, rotating, and scaling them in one operation by translating the current locations of two points to two new locations. The three transformations are done in that order: move, rotate, scale. Dependent objects, such as surfaces, are updated when you transform objects.

Note: Most survey-related and raw data, such as points with control quality or local / global coordinates (in latitude and longitude), cannot be moved.

To transform objects using points:

  1. Select Transform by Points.

The Move Rotate Scale Objects by Points command pane displays.

  2. Check the boxes for any options you want to use in the Settings group.
    • 3D move - Check this if you want to move an object in 3D, changing its elevation by the vertical distance specified in the Delta elevation box. If you choose a point with an elevation for the To point, the selected object will also be moved relative to that elevation. If this box is unchecked, the objects are moved in 2D.
  3. Click in the Objects to move box.
  4. Pick the objects to move in a graphic view or the Selection Explorer. Alternately, you can click Options and choose a selection method from the context menu.
  5. Tab to the Point 1 box in the From System group.
  6. In the Plan View, pick two points to move the objects from, or type coordinates in the Point 1 and Point 2 boxes.
  7. In the To System group, pick two points to transform the objects to (based on the From point), or type coordinates in the Point 1 and Point 2 box. The To point is also used as the rotation point if you enter a rotation angle.
  8. If the To point has an elevation, the delta elevation is automatically calculated and appears in the Delta elevation box. If needed, change the elevation.
  9. The new angle appears in the Rotation angle box, and the new scale appears in the Scale box. Edit either value, if needed. The rotation is clockwise.
  10. Click OK to transform the objects.
