Append a Line to an Alignment

Use the Append to Alignment command to use the horizontal and/or vertical geometry of a line in your model to extend an alignment. The geometry of the line is copied and appears as additional segments in the Alignment Editor. The first segment copied from the line (based on the line's direction) is appended to and placed after the last segment of the existing alignment.

Note: If needed, you can use the Create Alignment command to create an alignment entirely from an existing line.

Prerequisites:

  • alignment
  • line (polyline, linestring, breakline, etc.)

To access the command:

  • Select Append Alignment.
  • On the Alignment Editor's Horizontal or Vertical tab, click the Append Selected Line button.

To append a line to an alignment:

  1. For the Geometry Definition, confirm that Append horizontal alignment is selected.
  2. From the Line to append box, pick the line in the Plan View.
  3. Click OK. The segments copied from the line appear in the Alignment Editor.
  4. To append a vertical alignment for newly appended HAL, rerun the command using the Append vertical alignment option.

Scenarios:

  • If the wrong end of the line is appended to the alignment, change the direction of the line so the correct segment will be appended first. Right-click the line, and select Edit. In the Edit Linestring command pane, click the Reverse Linestring Direction icon on the command's toolbar.

Dependencies:

  • None; the original line can be edited or deleted without affecting the appended alignments.
