Create and Edit GCS and PCS Machines

Add new GCS and PCS machines to your data synchronization area to make them available for your current job site and all other job sites in your data synchronization area. Although a machine can only be assigned to one job site at a time, when you add them to the data synchronization area, they are made available to sites in your other projects.

Note: Only GCS and PCS machines can be created and deleted. Site controllers using site controller software (SCS) can only be added when they are synchronized using Office Synchronizer.

Prerequisites:

To add a machine:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Select Controller Manager in Construction Data > Controllers.
    • Double-click a controller in the Project Explorer.
    • Click the Controller Manager icon on the toolbar at the top of the Job Site Manager or Job Site Design Manager command pane.

    The Controller Manager displays.

  2. Click Create. The Create Controller dialog displays.
  3. Type a unique identifier for the machine in the Name box.
  4. Select the version, type, coordinate system options, and configuration files for the machine. See Controller Manager Options for details.
  5. To access the new machine in your project, assign your current job site to it by checking the Assign current job site to this controller box.
  6. Click Close. The GCS and PCS machines in your data synchronization area also appear in the Project Explorer.

To edit a machine:

  1. Follow step 1 above.
  2. Click Edit. The Edit Controller dialog displays.
  3. Change any of the available options, excluding the machine name.
  4. Click Close.

To specify configuration files for machines:

  1. Import GCS machine and display files or PCS display files based on your machine type. They are copied into the GCS or PCS folder in your data synchronization area (the root of the data card folder for the machine control software), making them available in the Controller Manager.
  2. Open the Create Controller or Edit Controller dialog using the steps above.
  3. In the Configuration files group, check the box for each file you want to assign to the machine. The same configuration files can be used on multiple machines. The files are copied to the appropriate machine folder in the data synchronization area. When the machine's data card is synchronized, the .mch, .dsp, or .persist files are copied to the corresponding location on the card.

Note: Although GCS and PCS display configuration files are used on different types of machines, the software does not restrict you from assigning them to an incompatible machine. Furthermore, there are no checks to ensure that the versions of the .mch, .dsp, and .persist files match the machine version.
