Connect to a Trimble Tablet Computer
To enable a Trimble Tablet computer to connect with a host computer running Trimble Business Center or Office Synchronizer, the TabletSync program must be installed and properly configured on the tablet computer.
Note: If TabletSync is not installed on the Trimble Tablet computer, install the latest version of Trimble Access. This will install TabletSync.
To initially configure TabletSync on the Trimble Tablet computer:
The following instructions are based on the assumption that TabletSync has never been configured on the Trimble Tablet computer. If it has been, see the section "To configure TabletSync after initial configuration" later in this topic for instructions on changing configuration settings.
- Open the TabletSync program on the Trimble Tablet computer.
The first time you open the program, the Device Setup dialog displays.
- Complete the fields in the Device Setup dialog:
- Device name - Enter the name of the Trimble Tablet computer.
- Field crew name - This field is optional.
- Synchronizer root folder on the host PC - Enter the full path to the Office Synchronizer data synchronization area located on the host computer or on another computer accessible by the host computer via a network connection (for example, C:\Trimble Synchronizer Data).
The Folder for this device field displays the path you entered in the previous field, along with a new subfolder named the same as the device (for example, C:\Trimble Synchronizer Data\Device 01).
Note: Specifying the root folder path is required by Office Synchronizer.
Trimble application programs already installed on the Trimble Tablet computer are displayed in the Installed Applications list.
- Click OK.
The newly entered name for the Trimble Tablet computer displays in the Device Name field in the TabletSync window.
- In the TabletSync window, click the
button.
- In the Enter Host Name dialog, enter the name of the host computer. The host name is case sensitive.
You can determine the name of the host computer by right-clicking Computer or My Computer in the host computer's Start menu and selecting Properties.
- Click OK.
The name is added to the Hosts list in the TabletSync window. You are now ready to connect the Trimble Tablet computer to the host computer.
To connect the Trimble Tablet computer:
Before performing this procedure, ensure the following:
- TabletSync is configured on the Trimble Tablet computer as described in the previous section and the correct host name has been selected in the Hosts list in the TabletSync window.
- The same port is selected for use on the Trimble Tablet computer and on Trimble Business Center and/or Office Synchronizer. The default port is 8000. To change the port in Trimble Business Center, select Options in the Quick Access Toolbarand select Network Device Port. To change the port in Office Synchronizer, select Tools > Options > TabletSync.
- Ensure Trimble Business Center or Office Synchronizer is running on the host computer.
- Connect the Trimble Tablet computer to the same network to which the host computer is connected using any of the following protocols:
- Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)
- Domain Name System (DNS)
- Internet Protocol (IP) address
- If you are connecting the Trimble Tablet computer to Trimble Business Center, in Trimble Business Center open the Device Pane. Then click the TabletSync button switch in the Device Pane toolbar to turn it on. This enables Trimble Business Center to "listen" for a connection request from the Trimble Tablet.
Note: You can select to keep the TabletSync switch always turned on in Trimble Business Center by selecting the Keep TabletSync always on option in Options > Network Device Port.
No special preparation is required when connecting to Office Synchronizer. Office Synchronizer is always "listening" for a connection request from the Trimble Tablet.
- Open the TabletSync program on the Trimble Tablet computer, and select the appropriate host in the Hosts list.
If the selected host computer is found on the network, the Connect button is enabled.
- Click the Connect button.
When the connection is complete, a "Connected to <Host Name>" message displays in the status bar.
- Use Trimble Business Center or Office Synchronizer to transfer and synchronize data between the Trimble Tablet computer and the host computer.
- When you are done, click the Disconnect button.
To configure TabletSync after initial configuration:
After initial configuration, you can reconfigure TabletSync by opening it on the Trimble Tablet computer and making changes as necessary (for example, select or enter a different host computer name).
If the Trimble Tablet computer is connected to the host computer, you can also configure it using the Office Synchronizer program. Select Tools > Device Setup in the Office Synchronizer window.
