Import GCS Machine Job Site Design Linework Files (.svl)

Import job site design linework files (.svl) created in Trimble® SiteVision Office. Linework files are used with designs on grade control systems (GCS) or paving control systems. They can be:

  • Design files (listed as type SiteVision Linework) that can contain guidance alignments and background linework (including objects such as points, text, 3D polylines, and arcs).
  • Background files (listed as type SiteVision Linework) that do not contain guidance alignments, but can contain background linework (including objects such as points and text).
  • Avoidance zone files (see Import GCS Machine Job Site Design Avoidance Zone Files).

To import a file, follow the instructions in Import Data. The .svl files are listed in the Select Files area as SiteVision Linework files. After import, the file appears in the Project Explorer under the Imported Files folder. All imported data is placed on layer 0. When you import, the data is handled in these ways:

Importable Data

Data in the file

How the data is handled when imported

Points

.svl files can contain any number of points.

Note: When points are imported, they are placed on layer 0, not on the Points layer.

3D/2D CAD linework

.svl files can contain any number of arcs, lines, 3D polylines, and polylines.

Alignments

.svl files can contain guidance alignments, but the alignments are not imported. You can, however create the alignment manually. See Workflow for Creating Alignments.

Note: If the file contains only alignments, the import will fail.

All text objects are imported.
