Viewing and reviewing items in the map
Trimble Access provides various tools for controlling which data is displayed in the map so that you can focus on the data you are working on and more easily find and return to the features or areas you are most interested in.
The Map toolbar provides tools for:
-
orbiting the map, panning around the map and zooming in or out. See Basic map view.
-
selecting individual items, or by drawing a rectangle or polygon around multiple items. See Selecting items in the map.
-
Area of interest
Creating an area of interest that you can return to as needed.
An area of interest is useful when you have a large job site and you want to view only the part you are currently working in.
-
To create an area of interest, use the map pan and zoom tools so that the map shows only the part of the map you are interested in and then tap and hold Zoom extents in the Map toolbar and select Set area of interest.
-
To return to this view, tap and hold Zoom extents and select View area of interest.
-
-
Set user zoom extent
Configure the zoom extents so that part of the map is excluded when you tap Zoom extents in the Map toolbar.
Setting a user zoom extent is especially useful when you want to exclude a base station position that is several kilometers away.
-
To set the zoom extents, use the map pan and zoom tools so that the map shows only the part of the map you want included in the zoom extents and then tap and hold Zoom extents in the Map toolbar and select Set user zoom extent. This is now the map view shown when you tap Zoom extents.
-
To clear the custom view, tap and hold Zoom extents and select Clear user zoom extent.
-
-
Hide linked files or make them unselectable
Reduce clutter in the map by choosing to show only some of the files linked to the job, or some of layers within those files. To change the files or layers within files that are visible or selectable, tap in the map toolbar to open the Layer manager, select the Map files tab and then tap the check mark next to the file or layer name. For more information, see Managing map file layers.
-
Hide scan files you don't need
If the job contains scan point clouds (.rcwx files) or scan files (.tsf), use the Scans tab in the Layer manager to hide or display scan files in the map and in the Video screen. See Managing scan layers.
-
Data transparency
To provide better contrast with features in the job or in other linked files, tap in the map toolbar and select Transparency, and then adjust the settings to increase the transparency of the map background or BIM model.
-
Snap-to tools
Use the Snap‑to toolbar to accurately select the end point of a line or polyline, or the center of an arc, from linework in a map file even if no point exists. You can also create points from the points calculated by the Snap-to tool.
See Snap‑to toolbar.
-
BIM selection mode
To quickly disable or re-enable the selectability of item types when selecting items from a BIM model in the map, tap Selection mode in the BIM toolbar.
-
BIM selection using Organizer
To select items shown in the BIM model by Organizer group set up in Trimble Connect, tap Organizer in the BIM toolbar.
To isolate data you are most interested in:
-
Create scan regions
If the job contains scan point clouds (.rcwx files) and you are interested in only some parts of the scan point clouds, use the Scans tab in the Layer manager to create a region. A region can include points from multiple .rcwx scans, as well as other regions.
See Managing scan layers.
-
Limit box
To see more clearly inside a BIM model or scan point cloud, use the Limit box to exclude parts of the BIM model such as floors or exterior walls, or to exclude parts of the point cloud.
See Limit box.
-
Show and hide from the BIM model
To easily show only some items in a BIM model regardless of the BIM file or layer they are in, tap Show only or Hidein the BIM toolbar.
If you are viewing a BIM model, you can use the Limit box and the tools on the BIM toolbar together to isolate the particular part of the model you want to view.
The Layer manager provides two tabs for filtering the points, lines, arcs, and polylines in the job that are shown on the map:
-
Filter by point type
Use the Filter tab to filter job data by measurement type, for example by topo points, observed control points, keyed in points, computed cogo points, and so on.
-
Filter by code
Use the Features tab to filter job data by the feature codes defined by the Feature Library FXL file linked to the job.
Depending on your connected equipment, you may be able to view data in the map using the following:
-
Augmented reality view
If Trimble Access is connected to a Trimble GNSS receiver with IMU tilt compensation and you have started a survey, tap in the Map toolbar to switch to the Augmented reality view.
-
Instrument video
If Trimble Access is connected to an instrument that has Trimble VISION technology using a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Cirronet radio connection, tap to switch from the map view to the video feed from the instrument.
See Instrument video.
Use the Map settings screen to set up the map so that it is easier to select the right item:
-
To change the information that is shown in the map, such as labels and symbols, and to change the appearance of ground planes, surfaces and point clouds, tap and select Settings. See Map settings.
-
To explode polylines contained in DXF, Shape, 12da and LandXML files into individual line and arc segments, or to create points at the ends of lines and arcs and at all points along a polyline so that you can select them, tap and select Settings and then select the appropriate check boxes in the Map data controls group box. See Map data settings for DXF, Shape, 12da, and LandXML files.
