To add a device
Hardware items purchased from Trimble appear automatically in the Virtual Warehouse when they are shipped.
Some devices, such as tablets that are not Trimble-branded devices (known as "third-party devices"), must be manually added to the Virtual Warehouse so that you can assign the required software licenses to them.
Occasionally you may need to add an item to a Trimble device which was not purchased using your account. This can happen, for example if the device was originally purchased:
- by a different reseller and the customer is asking you to add items to the device.
- using a different account at your organization.

- Obtain the unique ID number for the device. To do this:
- Install Trimble Installation Manager on the device.
- Run Trimble Installation Manager.
- In the navigation bar, click About.
- Note down the value in the Controller unique ID field.
- In the Virtual Warehouse, select Perpetual Licenses / Assign/Upgrade.
- Click Add Device near the top of the Hardware Variants panel.
- Select Non-Trimble Device.
In the Serial Number field, enter the controller unique ID from the Trimble Installation Manager software.
- If required, enter a reference for this device in the Reference field.
- Click OK.
The new device appears in the Hardware Variants panel. Non-Trimble devices are listed under the Trimble Access-compatible OEM Device icon
in the product bar.
- You can now add items to the device.

- In the Virtual Warehouse, select Perpetual Licenses / Assign/Upgrade.
- Click Add Device near the top of the Hardware Variants panel.
- Select Trimble Device.
In the Serial Number field, enter the Trimble serial number of the device.
If required, enter a reference for this device in the Reference field.
Click OK.
The new device appears in the Hardware Variants panel with a status of Not activated or Activated, and you can view the complete history of the device, including the items currently assigned to the device are shown.
To protect your organization's privacy, details entered in the Reference field are only visible to the organization that entered the information.
- You can now add items to the device. See To change or upgrade a controller and To extend the Protection Plan coverage period.
If the Virtual Warehouse does not recognize the serial number you entered as a Trimble device, the device appears as a third-party device and the device status is Unassigned. If this is incorrect, contact Trimble support. See Additional support for details.
