To change or upgrade a controller
You can add or remove the items that are assigned to a controller before or after the customer has received the controller, provided that the device status is Not activated.
If the controller has Trimble Access software assigned, you cannot unassign Trimble Access. You can only unassign modules and warranties. To unassign Trimble Access from the controller, contact Trimble Support.
Once the controller is Activated you can still add field software, modules, and Protection Plans.
To change the modules assigned to a controller, select the controller in the Assign/Upgrade tab.
The fastest way to find a specific item is to click next to the Serial Number field at the top of the Hardware Variants panel and enter the serial number of the device. For more information, see To filter items. If the device is not shown, for example if the device was not purchased using your account, see To add a device.

- Select the controller in the Hardware Variants panel.
The Configuration panel shows the items assigned to the device.

Click Unassign.

In the confirmation dialog, click Yes.
All additional modules and warranties are unassigned from the selected device and are moved to the Available Stock panel.

If the controller has field software assigned to it that is not Trimble Access, click Unassign again.
If the controller has Trimble Access software assigned, you cannot unassign Trimble Access. You can only unassign modules and warranties. To unassign Trimble Access from the controller, contact Trimble Support.

In the confirmation dialog, click Yes.
The assigned field software items are unassigned from the controller and moved to the Available Stock panel.

- Select the device in the Hardware Variants panel.
- To add more modules, click Assign Modules and select the items to add and the sales order /purchase order number that applies.

Click Assign.
A confirmation dialog shows the items that will be assigned to the device, including the status and expiry dates of any factory warranties that will be assigned. Click OK.

To extend the software maintenance, click Assign Trimble Protection Plans in the field software tile. Select the Protection Plan(s) and the number of plans to apply and click Assign. Review your changes and click OK.

- Use Trimble Installation Manager to update the device, or notify the customer to update the device.
