Import Feature Definition Files (.fxl)

Before you can process feature codes in Trimble Business Center, you must import a Feature Definition (.fxl) file to populate the project's Feature Library, or you must create a new Feature Library from "scratch."

There are several ways to import an FXL file into your project's Feature Library:

  • Use the Feature Code Processing tab in the Project Settings dialog to import the FXL file. For instructions, see Feature Code Processing Settings.
  • Use the Import pane to import the FXL file. For instructions, see Import Data.
  • Drag-and-drop to import the FXL file.
  • Import a Job (.job) or JobXML (.jxl) file that references an FXL file contained in the data folder to automatically import the FXL file into your project.

The contents of the Feature Library are displayed in the Project Explorer.

Note the following:

  • If you import an FXL file into a project that already includes a Feature Library, a new library is created based on the imported FXL file, and the old library, including all of the old feature definitions, is deleted from the project. If you have processed feature codes in your project, you will need to reprocess them with the new Feature Library.
  • If the FXL file includes label styles, they are also imported into the project and can be viewed and edited in the Label Style Manager dialog. The labels are displayed with features after you process the feature codes using the FXL file. If a label style imported from the FXL file has the same name as a label style that is already included in the project but it has different properties, it is appended with an underscore and a number (_1). The newly imported label style does not overwrite the existing label style.
