Export Feature Definition Files (.fxl)

At any time, you can export the contents of your Feature Library to an FXL file that can be shared with field crews and others.

To export a feature library to a Feature Definition (.fxl) file:

  1. Select Export in Home > Data Exchange to display the Export pane.
  2. Select the GIS tab.
  3. Select Feature Definition File (.fxl) exporter in the list.
  4. Optionally, change the default file name and location for the exported FXL file in the File Name field.

The default name for the FXL file is the Feature Library name. The default location is the project folder.

  5. Optionally, change the FXL version for the export.

The default is the latest version.

  6. Use the Export only feature library styles drop-down list to specify whether you want to include in the exported FXL file all of the line and text styles defined in your project, or only those that are referenced in feature definitions contained in the Feature Library.
  7. Optionally, export an MCD file along with the FXL file.

The MCD file includes the options specified in the Measure Codes Editor that define the layout and behavior of each feature definition/control group available for selection in the Measure Codes section in the Create Point command. (For more information, see Measure Feature Codes when Creating a CAD Point and Export Measure Codes Definition Files.)

  8. Click Export.

Note: To "update" the contents of an existing FXL file, you can import the file into your project, make the necessary changes in the resulting Feature Library, and then export the contents of the modified Feature Library to the same file name and location as the original FXL file, effectively updating it by replacing it.
