Export Measure Codes Definition Files (.mcd)
Use the Measure Codes Definition file (.mcd) exporter or Feature Definition File (.fxl) exporter to export the Measure Codes options selected in your project to an MCD file that can be imported into other projects or applications. The MCD file includes the options specified in the Measure Codes Editor that define the layout and behavior of each feature definition/control group available for selection in the Measure Codes section in the Create Point command. You have the option of using either of the following exporters to export an MCD file:
- Measure Codes Definition file (.mcd) exporter - Use this exporter to export a standalone MCD file that is intended to be imported into a project that contains a Feature Library with matching feature definition/control groups.
- Feature Definition File (.fxl) exporter - Use this exporter to export an MCD file along with an FXL file that is intended to be imported into a project that does not already contain a Feature Library.
To export a standalone MCD file:
- Select Export in Home > Data Exchange to display the Export command pane.
- Select the GIS tab and then select Measure Codes Definition file (.mcd) exporter in the list.
- Optionally, change the default MCD file name and/or export location.
The default export location is the project folder.

To export an MCD file along with an FXL file:
- Select Export in Home > Data Exchange to display the Export command pane.
- Select the GIS tab and then select Feature Definition File (.fxl) exporter in the list.
- Optionally, change the default FXL file name and/or export location.
The exported MCD file will have the same name as the FXL file and will be exported to the same location. The default export location is the project folder.
- In the Settings section, select Yes in the Export MCD file drop-down list.
