Open, View, and Edit Media Folders

When one or more media files are assigned to a point, linestring, or other object in the field, during import a media folder is automatically created and attached to the object to contain the files. In addition, the files are copied to the project folder. After import, you can create additional media folders by assigning media files to objects to which no media files are currently assign. Once a media folder is created, you can open it to view its contents and make edits as necessary.

Prerequisites:

To open, view, and edit a media folder:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Select the Media Folder icon i_media folder in graphic view in the Plan View or 3D View.
    • Select the Media Folder icon i_media folder displayed beneath the Points or Media Files node in the Project Explorer.
  2. Right-click, and select Properties.

    The Properties pane for the media folder displays showing:

    • The name of the media folder
    • The media folder's parent object (the object to which it is attached)
    • A File Information section for each file referenced in the media folder

    Each File Information section includes the name of the assigned media file, its file path, its size, and other information about the file.

  3. To view a file contained in the media folder, locate the file in the appropriate File Information section. Then click the Open button i_open media file located to the right of the File path field.

    The file opens in an external viewer based on your operating system settings.

    Note: A media file can be in any format. To view the media file, you must have an appropriate external viewer for the file's format.

  4. To change the name of the Media Folder, enter a new name in the Name field.

    When a media folder is created, by default the folder is named the same as the object to which it is attached.

  5. To change the position of the Media Folder icon in relation to its parent object in the Plan View and 3D View, select a new position in the Display position drop-down list.
  6. To add a media file to the media folder (that is, assign it to the parent object), do the following:
    1. Click the Assign Media Files i_add image file to folder button located at the top of the Properties pane.
    2. In the Assign Media Files dialog, do either of the following:

      - To assign one or more files that are already referenced in the project, make your selection in the list. Click to expand any existing media folder to see the media files contained in it. Optionally, select a media folder to assign its entire contents to the selected object. When you are done making your selection, click OK.

      - To assign one or more files that are not already referenced in the project, click the Browse button to navigate to the file(s) you want to add. Select the file(s) and click the Open button.

    A new File Information section is displayed in the Properties pane containing a link to, and information about, the newly assigned media file.

  7. To remove a media file from the media folder, do the following:
    1. Click the Remove Media Files i_remove image file from folder button located at the top of the Properties pane.
    2. In the Remove Media Files dialog, select the file(s) you want to remove and click OK.

    The File Information section for the removed file no longer displays in the Properties pane.
