Create Points at an Interval
Create points at specified intervals along a linear object or in a straight line between two points in your project. The points can then be exported for stakeout in the field.
When you create points at an interval along an alignment, additional points are also created (independent of the interval) at the alignment’s transition points (e.g. POB, PC, and PT). When you create points at an interval along a line, additional points are also created at segment end points. This can help you stakeout other important locations along the alignment or line.
Prerequisites:
- One or more lines (for the linear option)
To access the command:
Do one of the following:
- Select Create Points at Intervals in CAD > Points.
- Right-click Points in the Project Explorer and select Create Points at Intervals in the context menu.
To create points at intervals:
- In the Create Points at Intervals command pane, select the appropriate option:
- Selection - Select this option to create points at intervals along a selected linear object. Then click in the Selection field and select the linear object you want to use to create the points. Click the Options button for more selection options.
- Two points - Select this option to create points in a straight line at intervals between two selected existing points. Then click in each of the two Point fields and either enter an existing point name (ID) or select the existing point in a graphic view.
- In the Interval field, enter the interval at which you want points to be created along the line.
If you enter a number and no unit of measurement (for example, "10"), the default unit specified in Project Settings will be used (for example, meter). If you enter a number and a unit of measurement (for example, "10 feet" or "10 ft"), the unit you enter will be converted to the default units.
- In the Starting point ID field, enter a name (point ID) for the first point to be created.
Subsequent points will be named the same, but incremented by 1 (for example, if the start point is 1000, the second point is 1001, the third point is 1002, and so on).
- Optionally, select a different layer in the Layer list on which to create the points, or select <<New Layer>> to create a new layer for the points.
- Optionally, type a feature code in the Feature Code field or click the Browse button to select a feature code to apply to the new points.
- In the Options box, do one of the following:
- Select the Create grid-only points check box to specify that the new points be created as grid points (points with X, Y, and Z grid coordinates only; no global or local latitude and longitude coordinates).
- De-select the Create grid-only points check box and select the quality for the points in the Point quality drop-down list.
- Optionally, enter horizontal and vertical offsets for the points in th Offsets fields.
The value you enter offsets the new points from the selected linear object or the straight line between two selected points.
- When you are done, click Close, or click Apply to create additional points.
These commands are available in the command pane and by right-clicking in the graphic view.
The newly created points are displayed in the Plan View and in the Project Explorer.
