Create and Edit Scale Bars

Use the Create Scale Bar command to create a scale line, alternating, or double-alternating scale bar to display in the Plan View or a dynaview in your project.

Prerequisites:

See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.

To create a scale bar:

  1. Select Create Scale Bar in Drafting > Drafting Elements to display the Create Scale Bar command pane.
  2. In the Layer field, select the layer on which the scale bar will display.
  3. In the Scale bar type drop-down list, select the type of scale bar you want to create.
    • Scale Line

    • Alternating Scale Bar

    • Double Alternating Scale Bar

  4. Optionally, change any of the properties for the new scale bar in the Scale Bar Properties group.

For instructions, see Scale Bar Properties.

  5. In the Scale mode group box, select the appropriate option:
    • Target dynaview - Select this option to create the scale bar in a dynaview in your project. Then click in the field located beneath the group box and select the dynaview in a graphic view.
    • Specify scale - Select this option to create the scale bar in the Plan View based on a scale value. Then click in the field located beneath the group box and enter the scale value.
  6. Drag the newly created scale bar to the desired location and click. Or, type in the coordinate for the location in the Location field.

The scale bar displays in the selected location using the properties defined for it in the Create Scale Bar command pane.

If you need to edit the newly created scale bar, select it, right-click, and select Properties. See Scale Bar Properties for description of the properties/options you can change.

Note the following:

  • If a dynaview is deleted, its associated scale bar is deleted.
  • If a sheet view associated with a scale bar is rebuilt, the scale bar is deleted.
  • If the scale of a dynaview is changed, the scale of its associated scale bar is automatically updated accordingly.
  • If the project distance unit settings specified in Project Settings are changed, the scale bar distance units are automatically updated accordingly.
  • Scale bars will be converted into CAD block objects when exporting to DXF/DWG files. The association between a scale bar and a dynaview is lost as a result.
  • Scale bars are not created when importing from DXF/DWG files.

To edit an existing scale bar:

  1. Select the scale bar you want to edit, right-click, and select Properties.

Select Delete if you want to delete the scale bar rather than edit it.

  2. Make changes to scale bar properties in the Properties pane as necessary.

See Scale Bar Properties for description of the properties you can change.
