Create Scan Stations from Total Stations
Use the Create Scan Station command to create a movable scan station based on an unmovable total station, enabling the scan station, along with its scan and photo data, to move during the scan registration process. This is useful if, for example, you are not confident in the coordinates established for the total station and you want the station to move as necessary to align with other stations as part of the scan registration process.
Prerequisites:
See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.
To create a scan station from a total station:
- Select Create Scan Station in Point Clouds > Registration to display the Create Scan Station command pane.
- Click in the Total Stations with Scans field and then select in the Project Explorer or graphic view one or more total station(s) with scans from which you want to create scan stations.
Click the Options button for additional selection options.
The number of selected total stations that include scan and/or image data is displayed beneath the field.
- Select the appropriate Name option to specify the name(s) for the new scan station(s):
- Rename - Use this option in either of the following cases:
- You are creating one or more scan stations and you want each to have the same name as its associated total station. For example, if the total station name is 100 and you leave the Value field blank, the new scan station and its associated point will be named 100* (note the asterisk).
- You are creating multiple scan stations and you want each to be named the same but with an incremented numeric suffix. For example, if you are creating three scan stations and you enter SS 100 in the Value field, the new scan stations and their associated points will be named SS 100, SS 101, and SS 102. If you enter 1000, the new scan stations will be named 1000, 1001, and 1002.
- Add prefix - Use this option if you want to add a prefix to the beginning of the associated total station name to create a new scan station name. For example, if the total station name is 100 and you enter SS in the Value field, the new scan station and its associated point will be named SS100.
- Add suffix - Use this option if you want to add a suffix to the end of the associated total station name to create a new scan station name. For example, if the total station name is 100 and you enter SS in the Value field, the new scan station and its associated point will be named 100SS.
Note: For these first three option, you can include spaces in the station name (for example, SS 100).
- Add constant - Select this option if you want to enter a value by which to increase the numeric name for the associated total station name to create the new scan station name. For example, if the total station name is 100 and you enter 4 in the Value field, the new scan station and its associated point will be named 104.
- Rename - Use this option in either of the following cases:
- Select either of the following Original Scans and Images options:
- Move to scan station - Select this option to remove scan and photo data from the total station and add it to the new scan station so that it exists only on the scan station.
- Copy to scan station - Select this option to keep scan and photo data on the total station and duplicate it on the new scan station so that it exists on both stations. (This will increase the size of your project file.) Optionally, after creating the new scan station, you can hide the associated total station's scan and photo image data using the View Filter Manager.
- Click Apply to create the new scan station(s) and keep the command pane open. Or, click OK to create the new scan station(s) and close the command pane.
You are now ready to include the new movable scan station(s) in the scan registration process.
