Rotate Objects Using the CAD Command Line

Use the Rotate Objects command alias on the CAD Command Line to re-orient your data, turn one or more objects to a new 2D angle around a rotation point. Dependent objects, such as a surface, are updated when you rotate objects.

Prerequisites:

To move objects from the CAD Command Line:

  1. Press [F3] or click thei_command line icon on the Status Bar to open the CAD Command Line.
  2. Type ro or RO at the command prompt, and press [Enter].
  3. Skip the Layer, Color, and Line style lists below the command prompt; they do not apply to this operation.
  4. Pick the objects to rotate in a supported view (Plan, Sheet, or Cutting Plane), and press [Enter].
  1. In the view, pick a rotation point, or type a coordinate around which to rotate the object.
  1. Based on the Move and Drag modes highlighted at the prompt, enter a rotation angle, or enter a keyword character to use another mode. The options are:
    • Move - Enter M and then a rotation angle (clockwise) or pick two points to specify the angle and press [Enter]. The selected object will be rotated.
    • Copy - Enter C and then a rotation angle (clockwise) or pick two points to specify the angle and press [Enter]. Copies of the selected object will be created at the rotation angle.
    • 2D - Enter 2 to keep the source object's elevation and rotate the objects in 2D only.
    • 3D - Enter 3 to rotate the objects in 3D by picking a To object with a different elevation or by entering a 3D coordinate (X,Y,Z)
    • No drag - Enter N to show none of the copied objects moving as you drag them in the view.
    • Drag - Enter D to show the copied objects moving as you drag them in the view.
    • Drag with dependents - Enter W to show dependent objects moving as you drag their parent copies in the view. For example, if you copy a point that a text label references, the copied label will move as well.

The command remembers the last modes used the next time you run the command.

  1. Pick a rotation angle in the view, or type an angle, and press [Enter]. The rotation is clockwise.

Tip: The rotation angle is remembered so you can just keep pressing [Enter] to create a radial array of objects.

  1. Press [Enter]. When the operation mode is Move mode, the objects are rotated and finish the command with selecting rotated objects. When mode is Copy mode, the objects are created at the rotated position and finish the command with selecting rotated objects.
  2. Rotate another object or press [Escape] to end the command and return to a blank command prompt.
  3. Press [Spacebar] to rerun the command.

Dependencies:

  • None.
