Elevate a Contour Line

Elevate a series of 2D lines representing surface contours by clicking one line at a time. The lines are elevated based on a specified starting elevation, increment direction, and contour interval. Typically, it is most efficient to elevate contour lines by their labels, and then elevate other contour lines by crossing before using this command.

To easily identify which lines have been elevated, set your zero-elevation data to an alternate color in the View Filter Manager and open a 3D View alongside the Plan View before using this command.

Prerequisites:

  • License for a module. To see which modules license this command, see Licensed Features.
  • one or more contour lines

To elevate a contour line:

  1. Select View Filter Manager in Home > View.
  2. Click the Display Options tab at the bottom of the manager, and select Display in alternate color.
  3. Choose a new color in the Alternate color list.
  4. Select Elevate Contour in Data Prep > Elevate.

The Elevate Contour command pane displays.

  5. To elevate each line you pick to the same elevation, uncheck the Increment after each selection box. Otherwise, the elevation will increment or decrement for the next line after you elevate a line.
  6. If you are using automatic increments (above), specify the vertical distance between each line in the Contour interval box, and specify whether to increment the elevation by the interval value either up or down each time you click a new line.
  7. Specify the elevation of the first line you will click in the Current elevation box. If you have a line with an elevation value in your series of lines, you can click it to specify its elevation.
  8. Click in the Contour Line box and pick the first line in the series in the Plan View. The current elevation is applied.
  9. Pick the adjacent line in the series based on the increment direction you specified. The contour interval value is added to the elevation of the last line picked and applied to the current line.
  10. Continue picking the contour lines to elevate them.
  11. Click Close when you are finished.
