Create and Edit Site Improvement Definitions
Create various types of site improvement definitions after you create appropriate site improvement categories. For landscaping-related site improvements, use the native Landscaping/Topsoil category.
Prerequisites:
- License; See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.

- Linear with cross-sectional area - Select this for a site improvement that is to be quantified by its length and for which its cross-sectional surface area is needed in order to report the volume of material that is needed to construct it. A concrete curb is a good example.
- Count - Select this for a site improvement which is to be quantified based on the number of units needed. Parking block and fire hydrants are good examples.

To create a site improvement for placed fill to be compacted:
Create an area-based site improvement that includes:
- a single material layer of
- a single earthwork material that consists of
- multiple lifts with compaction targets
The material layer for each fill area-based site improvement is represented by an earthworks surface that can be sent to GCS900 and CCS900 machines in the field. Typically, the areas in which placed fill is compacted are bounded by daylight lines on a site construction job or the edge of a road embankment on a corridor construction job. Each placed fill material layer is usually comprised of a single earthwork material. For information on creating a daylight line, see Create a Daylight Line.
To create a site improvement definition for engineered material layers to be compacted:
Create an area-based site improvement that includes:
- a series of material layers of
- varying materials that consist of
- multiple lifts with compaction targets as part of
- an area-based site improvement assigned to a designed fill area.
Each material layer can be represented by an earthworks surface that can be sent to GCS900 and CCS900 machines in the field. Typically, the areas in which engineered aterials are compacted are bounded by work areas on a site construction job or the edges of road courses on a corridor construction job. Each area-based site improvement can be comprised of multiple material layers, each consisting of a different material to be laid in lifts.
To edit an existing site improvement definition:
- In the explorer pane, select the site improvement that you want to edit. The properties appear in the Site Improvement pane.
- Click in any of the boxes to edit the properties. Click a site improvement type above for details.
