Import Planar Surface Files (.tsd)
Trimble Surface Design files (.tsd) are planar surface files produced in Trimble SiteVision® Office. Specifically, they are 3D vertical guidance files from which designs are created. On GCS machines, planar surfaces are referred to as either Sloping surface or Level surface, depending on their type. To import a file, follow the instructions in Import Data. After import, the file appears in the Project Explorer under the Imported Files folder, and the imported data appears under Surfaces. Planar surface properties are displayed in the Properties pane, where you can also edit the design. The design record is different for each surface design type. The data in the file is in meters, but the importer will convert the data into your project settings units.
Note: You can also create, edit, and export planar surface files.

Description |
Constant elevation
(level surface design) |
Single plane with a constant elevation and no slope. This defines a level surface at the specified elevation. |
Point and direction
(sloping surface design) |
Two intersecting planes with constant cross slopes projecting outward from either side of a line that is formed from a specified point, elevation, and direction. Outward projecting planes are then defined on both sides of this line by their respective cross slopes. Note that the two cross slopes can be designated so as to create a single plane. |
Two point
(sloping surface design) |
Two intersecting planes with constant cross slopes projecting outward from either side of a line that is formed between two specified points. Outward projecting planes are then defined on both sides of this line by their respective cross slopes. Once again, the two cross slopes can be designated so as to create a single plane. |

Constant elevation design type (Level, planar surface design) |
|
Elevation |
This specifies the single, consistent elevation of the imported surface. |
Point and Direction design type (Sloping, planar surface design) |
|
Origin coordinate |
Easting - Specifies the easting grid coordinate of the surface's origin point. Northing - Specifies the northing grid coordinate of the surface's origin point. Elevation - Specifies the surface origin coordinate's elevation. |
Defining line |
Direction - Specifies the bearing of the defining line. Grade - Specifies the grade in percent slope of the defining line (measured from the horizontal, positive up, and negative down) . |
Cross slope |
Left - Specifies the cross slope to the left of the defining line (looking away from the origin coordinate). Right - Specifies the cross slope to the right of the defining line. |
Two Point design type (Sloping, planar surface design) |
|
Origin coordinate |
See Origin coordinate above. |
Second coordinate |
Easting - Specifies the easting grid coordinate of the second point used to define the surface's center line. Northing - Specifies the northing grid coordinate of the second point used to define the surface's center line. Elevation - Specifies the surface origin coordinate's elevation. |
Cross slope |
Left - Specifies the cross slope to the left of the defining line (looking from the first point to the second point). Right - Specifies the cross slope to the right of the defining line. |
