Adding data

You can add point cloud data to the Trimble Connect Reality Capture Service by publishing data to the service from other software or by uploading or importing files.

Publishing scans from SiteVision

Scans captured using the Trimble SiteVision® 3D Scan app and saved to Trimble Connect are automatically published to the Trimble Reality Capture Platform Service.

Publishing data from Trimble office software

Typically you will want to complete quality assurance processing of scans and LiDAR data from the field in your office software before you publish it to the Trimble Reality Capture Platform Service. For example, you can use Trimble Business Center or Trimble RealWorks™ software to complete scan registration, point cloud classification, and downsample the point cloud to reduce the file size if needed.

To publish data to the Trimble Reality Capture Platform Service directly from the office software, for example from Trimble Business Center:

  1. From the Home ribbon in TBC, tap Publish to TRCPS.

  2. Enter the Publication name.

  3. Select the project to publish to.

  4. Click Publish.

Uploading files

You can upload .las, .laz or e57 files smaller than 5GB by dragging and dropping them into the Trimble Connect Explorer. To add a larger file, you can import it.

When you select one of the uploaded files in the Trimble Connect Explorer, the panel on the right shows the Tile button. Click Tile to push the uploaded files into the Reality Capture extension.

Once the file is in the Reality Capture extension you can view it in the Trimble Connect 3D Viewer.

Importing scans

To import a .las, .laz or e57 file:

  1. In Trimble Connect Web open the project you want to import the data to.

  2. Select the Reality Capture tab from the side panel.

  3. Click the Import button at the top right of the screen.

  4. Click and drag the files from File explorer onto the cloud area of the Import Files window.

Alternatively, click one of the buttons below the cloud area to select data from elsewhere in the cloud. You can select from:

    • Trimble Clarity

    • Trimble Connect

    • Google Drive

    • Microsoft OneDrive

    • Dropbox

  5. If you select more than one file, select whether to Combine files into a single package.

  6. To classify the data during import, enable the Run classifier on import option and select whether the data in the file is Terrestrial or Aerial. The data is classified using the template shown in the Classification template tab of the Reality Capture Settings page.

  7. Click Import.

  8. When import is completed, click Close to close the Import Files window.

Once the data is processed, it appears in the Reality Capture extension as well as the Trimble Connect Explorer. You can select then the file and view it in the Trimble Connect 3D Viewer.
