Prevent Overwriting Job Site Data
In certain situations, you may want to prevent yourself or others from overwriting the job site data in a data synchronization area (and ultimately on assigned controllers) with the job site data in your project. Accidentally overwriting files in your data synchronization area usually occurs when you add an external job site or external design to your project. The settings described below can prevent this from happening.
Three project settings are available to protect the data in your data synchronization area:
- Protect site calibration files
- Protect for control points files
- Protect other site files and external designs (site files include site units, site map objects, avoidance zones, and feature code files)
When file overwrite protection is enabled, any data that is imported or 'read in' from an external job site or design is not written back out to the data synchronization area. If you assign your job site to additional controllers, however, your project's site and design data can still be exported (or copied from another controller) to them. By default, file overwrite protection is enabled when you add an external job site or job site design to your project. For more information, see Workflow for Using an Existing Site.
Note: The site calibration setting refers to calibration at the job site level. Site calibration for GCS controllers, however, is per design, so it is not affected and behaves normally. When a site calibration is sent to a GCS controller, a configuration file (.cfg) is also written to the design folder for the machine. This configuration file cannot be re-imported, so it cannot be used to resolve a conflict.
To access file overwrite protection settings:
- Select Project Settings in the Quick Access Toolbar.
- In the Project Settings dialog, click Computational Settings and then Field Data in the left pane.
- Click in each of the File Overwrite Protection settings for the data you need to protect, and select Yes. When you or other users try to save site data to a controller that already has those types of files, you will be prevented from doing so.
Note: When you import external job site or job site design data, if you have conflicts between your project's site data and the site data on controllers, red dots will still appear on the resolve buttons in the Job Site Manager and Job Site Design Manager. You will be unable to resolve the conflicts with these settings enabled, but you will not be prevented from making changes to the data because it will not be exported to the data synchronization area and assigned controllers.
