To transfer controller software licenses

You can transfer software licenses from one device to another, for example if a customer purchases a new controller that is not bundled with software so that their existing software licenses can be transferred from their old controller to the new one. To be able to transfer licenses from an old controller, you must first relinquish the licenses and options from the old device using Trimble Installation Manager. Relinquished licenses do not appear in the Virtual Warehouse as stock.

If you are transferring licenses from a Trimble device to a non-Trimble device, or vice versa, the license is converted to the appropriate license type for the new device during the transfer process (for example, a Trimble Access General Survey license is converted from TA-GENSURV-WIN-P to TA-GENSURV-P).

All licenses and software maintenance items from the old device are transferred to the new device. If the new device does not support a specific application, for example if a Trimble Access Monitoring license is transferred from a TSC3 to a Windows® tablet, then that application cannot be used on the new device, and you cannot transfer that license to another device. If at some point the application is supported on the device, then the customer will be able to use it.

If required, you can transfer software licenses from more than one device to a new device.

Before you can complete this step, the licenses and options must be relinquished from the device using Trimble Installation Manager. If the customer has the device, ask them to forward you the email they receive from Trimble Installation Manager confirming the licenses have been relinquished. For more information, refer to the Trimble Installation Manager For Windows or the Trimble Installation Manager For Android help. If you are unable to use Trimble Installation Manager, for example the device will not connect, contact Trimble Support.

To transfer relinquished licenses to the new device

  1. Select Assign/Upgrade.

  2. Select the new device from the Hardware Variants panel.

    If there is a large number of devices, create a filter.

    If the device is not shown, see To add a device.

  3. Click next to the device serial number in the Hardware variants panel.
    1. Enter the serial number of the device from which the licenses and options have been relinquished.

    2. Click OK.

      All relinquished licenses and software maintenance items from the old device are transferred to the new device.

  4. Select the newly configured device.

    The panels in the Assign/Upgrade tab show the items currently assigned to the device and items available to add.

    If the license is converted to a different type, it may take a few minutes for the new license to appear.

  5. Add additional options, if required.
