Break a Line Using the CAD Command Line
Use the Break Line command alias on the CAD Command Line to split a line into two separate linestrings at the point you specify. The linestrings remain coincident at the break point, but must be edited separately thereafter.
Note: This command and others used on lines, such as Join, Edit, and Delete Line Segment, convert the lines into linestrings. Linestrings are generic lines which offer more editable properties than the original lines. For more information on linestrings, see Understanding Lines, Linestrings, and Alignments.

- Line to break
To break a line from the CAD Command Line:
- Press [F3] or click the
icon on the Status Bar to open the CAD Command Line. - Type br or BR at the command prompt, and press [Enter].
- Skip the Layer, Color, and Line style lists below the command prompt; they do not apply to this operation.
- Pick the line to break in a supported view (Plan View, 3D View, Sheet View, Cross-Section View, or Cutting Plane View), and press [Enter].
- Pick a point along the line at which to break it, or type a distance from the line's start point and press [Enter]. The line is broken and the first of the two new linestrings remains selected.
- To break another line, press [Spacebar] to rerun the command.
