Create Comment Instructions
The Comment instruction type inserts a comment you compose into the Instructions list. Comment instructions do not modify the template in any way. Instead, they enable you to break a long Instructions list into one or more groupings organized by Comment instruction "headings," making the list easier to scan and understand. For example, you might insert a comment such as "Start curb and gutter" immediately preceding a set of instructions for the curb and gutter portion of the template.
When viewing the list, you have the option to collapse (hide) all of the instructions following the Comment instruction, either to the end of the list or to the next Comment instruction. The collapsed (hidden) instructions are still applied to the corridor template; they are just no longer displayed in the Instructions list, until you choose to expand (unhide) them. Using the earlier example, you might insert a second comment such as "End curb and gutter" immediately following the set of instructions for the curb and gutter portion of the template. You could then select to collapse (hide) all of the curb and gutter instructions located between the first and second comment, enabling you to more easily focus on just the instructions you want to work with.
To create a new Comment template instruction:
- Display the Edit Corridor Template command pane for the template for which you want to create a new Comment instruction as described in Create Corridor Template Instructions.
- In the Instructions list, select the instruction after which you want to insert the new Comment instruction.
- Click the Add Instruction button located at the top of the Edit Corridor Template command pane. (Or, right-click the selected instruction and select Add.)
- In the Instruction Type drop-down list, select Comment.
- In the Comment field, enter the comment you want to display in the Instructions list.
- Optionally, select a different background color to be applied to the Comment instruction:
- Color expanded - This color is applied when the instructions following the Comment instruction have not been collapsed (hidden).
- Color collapsed - This color is applied when the instructions following the Comment instruction have been collapsed (hidden).
You might want to use different colors to identify different sets of template instructions.
- Click Add.
- Optionally, repeat to create additional Comment instructions.
- Optionally, right-click any Comment instruction in the Instructions list and select Collapse to collapse (hide) all of the subsequent instructions either to the end of the list (there is no following Comment instruction) or to the next Comment instruction in the list.
