Edit a Job Site's Name and Settings

Review and change a job site's name and units in preparation for use on site controllers in the field. These are the common settings found in Trimble's Site Controller Software (SCS) and this software's projects: Distance units, angular units, station format, and coordinate order.

Project and job site naming

You should give each of your project files a unique name so they uniquely pertain to a particular construction project and reliably avoid confusion with other projects. In addition, you must name each job site uniquely because controllers identify the project and its site by the site name alone; the project name is not available on the controller. If two construction projects contain sites of the same name, and if those sites are each assigned to a number of controllers, there is no way for the user of the site controller in the field to determine which project the site data pertains to, other than through his familiarity with the data. In general, the name of a project and its site should be the same. If that is not feasible, try to derive a site name shortened from the project name. Shortening the site name may be warranted in light of the small screen size available on some site controllers.

To edit a job site's name and settings:

  1. If you have just created or added a job site, the Job Site Manager command pane is displayed. Otherwise, select Job Site Manager in Construction Data > Controllers.

The Job Site Manager command pane displays.

  2. To change the site name, click Rename in the Site Settings group. The Rename Job Site dialog displays.
  3. Type a unique name in the New site name box, and click OK.
  4. Click Units to review the settings for the site. The Site Units dialog displays.

Note: This software supports a number of units of measure that are not supported by SCS. When using this software with SCS900, the units must be compatible. GCS machines are not dependant on job site settings.
Note: Changing a site's name or settings can cause it to become out of sync with the data synchronization area. A desynchronized site is indicated by an icon in the Project Explorer. To resolve conflicts after you edit a site, click each Resolve button that is available.

  5. To change the site calibration, control points, or site map objects included in your site data, see Edit Job Site Data.
  6. To change any of the controllers the site is assigned to, click Reassign in the Controllers group.
  7. Click Close. The site name and settings are saved to the data synchronization area.
