Add a Drill Hole to a Drill Plan

Use the Add Drill Hole to Drill Plan command to add one or more drill holes to an existing drill plan of any type. You can specify coordinates for each drill hole or you can create drill holes at the locations of existing objects, such as points. If you import a drill plan in an IREDES file, you can also add new drill holes to it.

Once you have added drill holes to a drill plan, use the Rebuild Drill Plan command to update it with changes you have made.

Prerequisites:

To access the command:

To add a drill hole to a drill plan:

  1. In the Drill plan list, select or confirm the plan to which you want to add drill holes.
  2. Select an option in the Hole type list:
    • Split hole
    • Blast hole

Note: Depending on the type of drill plan you have selected, some hole types may not be available.

  3. In the ID box, type a numeric identifier for the drill hole. This ID will automatically increment as you add more drill holes to the plan.
  4. In the Name box, type a name to be given to all of the drill holes you are adding to the plan.
  5. The length hole diameter, orientation, and inclination for the drill holes are automatically populated by the defaults specified in Project Settings. Edit them as needed:
    • In the Length box, specify the distance the hole should be drilled.
    • In the Hole diameter box, specify the width of the hole.
    • In the Orientation box, specify a bearing for the drill hole.
    • In the Inclination box, specify a vertical angle for the drill hole.
  6. Select a Method to add holes:
    • Select objects - Choose this to base drill holes on existing points. The drill hole's design points will be based on the point's coordinates.
    1. Click in the Objects box and pick points in the Plan View, or click Options and choose a selection method from the context menu.

Note: Each object you pick must have an elevation for the drill hole to be created properly.

    • Specify coordinates - Select this to specify the 3D coordinate of each drill hole's design point.
    1. In the Design Point coordinate box, specify the x,y coordinate at which the drill hole should end.
    2. In the Design point elevation box, specify the elevation at which the drill hole should end.

Note: If desired, click the icon to toggle the auto-advance mode on. When the icon looks like this , the elevation value you entered will be held and this box will be skipped when creating additional design points.
Tip: You can toggle the Auto-advance mode on/off by pressing [Control] + [.] (period or decimal point).

  7. Click Add. To add more drill holes to the same or another plan, repeat the steps above before you click Cancel.

Dependencies:

  • Drill hole start, design, and rock intersection points are dependent on the original ground, rock, and finished design surfaces. If these surfaces change, the coordinates of drill holes points will update to reflect the change.
