Copy Objects Using the CAD Command Line
Use the Copy Objects command alias on the CAD Command Line to duplicate one or more objects in 2D or 3D. Copied objects have the same properties as the objects they were copied from.
Note: Most survey-related and raw data, such as points with control quality or local/global coordinates (in latitude and longitude), cannot be copied.
Note: The pane-based versions of the CAD Command Line commands may have additional options not offered on the CAD Command Line, e.g., the option to relayer copied objects is only available in the pane-based command.
Prerequisites:
- License; See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.
- Objects to copy
To copy objects from the CAD Command Line:
- Press [F3] or click the
icon on the Status Bar to open the CAD Command Line.
- Type co or CO at the command prompt, and press [Enter].
- Skip the Layer, Color, and Line style lists below the command prompt; they do not apply to this operation.
- Pick the objects to copy in a supported view (Plan View, 3D View, Sheet View, Cross-Section View, or Cutting Plane View), and press [Enter].
- Pick a point to move the copied objects from, or type a coordinate and press [Enter].
- Based on the 3D and Drag modes highlighted at the prompt, pick a point to move the copied objects to (or enter a To coordinate), or enter a keyword character to use another mode. The options are:
- 2D - Enter 2 to keep the source object's elevation and copy the objects in 2D only.
- 3D - Enter 3 to move the objects in 3D by picking a 'To' object with a different elevation or by entering a 3D coordinate (X,Y,Z).
Note: The 2D and 3D options above are not offered when you are working in a Sheet View.
- No drag - Enter N to show none of the copied objects moving as you drag them in the view.
- Drag - Enter D to show the copied objects moving as you drag them in the view.
- Drag with dependents - Enter W to show dependent objects moving as you drag their parent copies in the view. For example, if you copy a point that a text label references, the copied label will move as well.
The command remembers the last modes used the next time you run the command.
- To create additional copies of the selected objects, simply continue to pick additional To points.
- Press [Escape] to end the command and return to a blank command prompt. To copy different objects, press [Spacebar] to rerun the command.
Dependencies:
- Copied objects are independent of the original objects they are copied from. However, if an object being copied is dependent on another object, the copy will also be dependent on it. If you copy both an object and an object it is dependent upon, then the new objects maintain that dependency between themselves, but there is no dependency on the original objects.
