Build Takeoff Surfaces
Update the surfaces that are automatically created by certain takeoff commands when you have made changes to layers, site improvements, boring logs, topsoil areas, or objects that affect those surfaces. For example, if you delete a building pad line from the layer assigned to the Design surface, you need to rebuild the surface. These surface types are updated by this command:
Surface Type |
Command that Creates the Surface |
Layer
(Original and Design) |
Surfaces are created when layers with data are assigned to the Original and Design categories. |
Subgrade
(Original and Design plus (Subgrade)) |
Categorize Takeoff Layers Surfaces are created when layers in the Original and Design categories have been assigned a site improvement that defines material levels. |
Depth |
Surfaces are created when strata has been defined, and boring logs have been created using the strata. |
Topsoil |
Topsoil Stripping and Replacement Surfaces are created when topsoil stripping or replacement areas have been defined. |
For details on the takeoff surfaces that are created, see Understanding Takeoff Surfaces.
Prerequisites:
- See the Subscription Plans page. For a license matrix by command, see the License page in the TBC Community. Also see View and manage licensed features.
- Automatically-created takeoff surfaces
To rebuild takeoff surfaces:
- Select Build Takeoff Surfaces.
- Right-click a takeoff surface (subgrade, depth, layer, topsoil, etc.), and select Build Takeoff Surfaces from the context menu.
The takeoff surfaces are updated based on the changes you made.
Note: To see the slope direction of each triangle in a surface, set Slope arrows to Show in the properties for a surface. To specify the length of the slope arrows, select Project > Project Settings. Then click Computations and Surface in the left pane. Change the value in the Slope arrow length box.
Tip: To view the surfaces, use the 3D View and the Surface Slicer View.
